Stagecoach Theatre School Staines

Stagecoach Theatre School Staines

From the age of 13 I began attending Stagecoach Theatre School on a Saturday morning where for several hours I would take part in acting, singing and dancing workshops which would be a course of weeks leading up to a final musical performance or to a talent show.

Attending Stagecoach allowed me to completely build up my confidence within performance as well as in group situations through improvisation and team building activities. This was also one of the first times I was introduced to performing in front of an audience.

Some of the opportunities I gained from Stagecoach was to explore different pieces from the theatre including performances of We Will Rock You to showcase pieces put together by the teachers such as 'Around the World at Christmas Time' which included short skits, music and dance from Irish dancing to African tribal pieces. This was a great opportunity to widen my knowledge of the further performing world.

One main opportunity that sticks in mind was the chance to perform at the Children's Variety Performance at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Many different stage schools attended  the show with a chance to perform various material they had been rehearsing for some time. Stagecoach Staines entered the performance with a dance from the musical Chicago and a song performance from The Lion King. The opportunity to perform on a West End stage in which Hairspray was being performed at the time was something incredible and built my confidence within performance immensely.

As the Spring Term of Stagecoach came to an end and Summer approached this gave the opportunity to take part in Stagecoach Summer School, which brought a completely new batch of students in and allowed a variety of talents and groups to form to put on a Summer musical performance such as Little Shop of Horrors and Grease. This also allowed the older students to work closely with the younger students and explore how it is to work with the younger stages as we didn't usually do this within the proper Stagecoach term.

I feel that attending Stagecoach from a young age has really shaped my love for performance in all aspects, but mainly it has given my confidence in every day life to be in front of a group of people and present myself confidently.
